A slow or complicated checkout process can lead to abandoned shopping carts. Whilst it’s possible to win back customers that have left your website without making a purchase, when they return to the same experience they’re unlikely to come back again.
Your customers want to be able to check out quickly, in the smallest possible number of clicks, and anything that you can do to speed up the process is likely to increase your chance of return visits.
Make your products easy to find
Don’t make people look through dozens of menus to find the item that they need. Make your category names clear and obvious, putting items into multiple categories if required. It’s important that customers find it as easy as possible to load up their shopping cart, which can encourage them to spend more money.
Make your payment form as short as possible
Many customers are in a hurry and don’t want to fill in lengthy forms. Only ask them to fill in the most essential information, and create your form so that they can type their address just once if their payment address and shipping address are identical.
Offer lots of payment options
Give your customers a variety of payment options, so that they can choose the one that suits them. Setting your online store up on the Magento platform can make it easy to offer variety. PayPal, in particular, can speed up the checkout process by giving customers a way to pay without inputting their card details. Ask your Magento ecommerce developer about the payment options that they can add to your online store.
Add an account creation option
On repeat visits, some customers appreciate the option to log in and check out more quickly. You can store their address details, and perhaps their payment details, so that they don’t need to type as much the next time they’d like to make a purchase.
Keep your customers up to date
Your shipping process should be as fast as possible, just as your payment process should be. Customers also appreciate updates when their order is sent out, and will be more likely to return if they feel like they’ve been waiting a reasonable amount of time for their order to arrive at their door.
